Modem Ratios

What are modem ratios and how do they effect the user?

ArkansasUSA uses a bank of modems to provide dial up access to the Internet. Just like all others Internet Access Providers we provide a set number of modems based on the number of users on our system. Many of the nation service use a ratio as high as 30 users per modem. Simple put, for each modem there are 30 registered users. Of course if all 30 decided to dial in at the same time only 1 would get in and 29 would receive a busy signal. By using a bank of phone lines that "Hunt", they roll over to the next number if the first one is busy, anyone of the 29 could still receive an open line if the provider has enough lines and person assigned to those lines are not on.

This process works well and at a ratio of 10 user per 1 modem rarely will a user every receive a busy signal when there is a bank of 24 or more lines.

ArkansasUSA provides two services which are unlimited Basic and unlimited Premium. We provide a 15 user to 1 modem ratio on our Basic service and a 5 user to 1 modem ratio on our premium. A user of our Basic will receive a busy signal on some dial ups. This should not last for more than 10 to 15 minutes. A user on our Premium should never receive a busy signal because our ratio is so low that the odds are against that happening.

Just like any business, ArkansasUSA must make a profit to say in business. We have based our prices on providing the best possible service for the cost. We believe our clients will find it is a price that is difficult to beat.
